That’s right. Dynamic ads. New groups. All new groups!
A big overhaul of how AdRotate works and will perform. Less queries, More speed and (hopefully) less clutter.
I have written mostly new code for groups to make them faster and more efficient.
Groups have been re-imagined to work more flexible and fast. A group can now operate in modes.
Groups have 3 modes;
- Default – Show one ad at a time (Just as groups always have done)
- Dynamic Mode – Show one ad at a time, load a new one every few seconds
- Block Mode – Show a grid of ads (Similar to current blocks) and benefit from all group functions
For AdRotate Pro, the new Block Mode will work with GeoLocation, too.
Due to how the modes work the ads in this mode for now are static and thus will not refresh every few seconds. Maybe I can add that at a later stage.
Block Mode in groups will sport all new HTML/CSS code too. Making it more flexible and less error prone. Scrollbars, anyone?
What about “original” blocks?
Existing blocks will continue to work. But the “add new” button will be gone. This will mean that any new block you want to make has to be made as a group so you can benefit from the new features in there.
Existing blocks will hopefully die out soon and the feature as such will be removed entirely sometime in the not too near future.
Similar to the phasing out of the old PHP snippets, which took nearly 2 years.
You are strongly encouraged to switch over your blocks as soon as possible. For a big part so your site will be faster and ads easier to manage. But also to avoid future issues when the current blocks will be removed from the code.
As of this writing I have a working beta. Almost fully functional.
This works on my servers but needs a ton of testing and fiddling to call it ready. Hopefully next week.
Everyone, including AdRotate Free users.
