Based on some user feedback over the past weeks I’ve decided to look into having AdRotate do automatic updates again.
Turns out that this is now quite easy (relatively speaking) to add. Overriding a bunch of stuff. Tricking WordPress to use my server instead of theirs… You know how it is .
More user-friendliness with easier updates.
I’m trying to have the system work seamlessly and identically to the regular updates you get in WordPress every day.
Downloads are protected and require your license to be activated for that domain. Otherwise it will not work.
I’m currently working and testing a distribution system. Where most other premium plugins use a similar system like this (or should!) but not offer the actual download I want to offer the download through an API. This means you not only get the notification. but also can download it through your WordPress dashboard.
This is very much in a beta and I may want to add some more stuff for a next release. So no set date. But definitely the next version.
The WordPress side of things is pretty much finished. But I’m still trying to get my side working. So far it provides all info. But not a download yet.. This is a system outside of WordPress so a lot of the neat stuff is not available and has to be created from scratch. For example how to upload a file to your site once you click update…
This requires a lot of testing and the update API in WordPress has this nice timeout which often simply won’t show the update because it thinks the update has been made… Blegh.
geoPlugin will be removed from the next version as the current implementation does not agree with their ToS. That, on top of the less than stellar performance and impressions the current plan is to go Freegeoip all the way. This is a smooth transition. Most of you probably won’t even notice
